A protest by factory workers in Noida has brought attention to deep-rooted labour issues in the region. What began as a peaceful demonstration quickly escalated into violence, with vehicles vandalised and roads blocked in the industrial sector.
The primary trigger for the protest was the recent wage hike announced in Haryana, which workers say has created an imbalance. Many workers in Noida allege they are underpaid and overworked, with limited access to basic amenities and grievance mechanisms.
Government officials have appealed for calm and assured workers that their demands will be addressed. At the same time, they have warned against attempts to incite unrest, emphasizing the need for lawful protest.
