In a sensational display of grit and determination, India’s rising badminton star Ayush Shetty pulled off the biggest victory of his career by defeating World No. 1 Kunlavut Vitidsarn to reach the final of the Badminton Asia Championships 2026 in Ningbo.
The 20-year-old staged a remarkable comeback after losing the opening game 10-21, showing nerves of steel to bounce back and clinch the next two games 21-19, 21-17. Facing a top-ranked opponent and Olympic silver medallist, Shetty initially struggled but gradually found his rhythm, turning defense into attack with precision and confidence.
With this victory, Shetty etched his name in history, becoming only the second Indian after Dinesh Khanna to reach the men’s singles final at the continental event. His incredible run has not only secured a medal but also marked the arrival of a new star in Indian badminton.
